Testimonial from a neurodivergent artist

I was struggling with my first funding application and arranged for access support with Elinor. She was instantly able to understand which areas of the application I needed help with. Elinor was able to break down the steps I needed to take into bite-sized chunks; this helped me immensely as I was struggling with overwhelm and had been about to give up.

Elinor’s experience and knowledge of funding applications means that she was able to show me which areas of the application were the most important, so that I could focus my attention there. She was able to provide the scaffolding I needed in order to not only complete my funding application, but to edit and to refine it until I was satisfied. This massively boosted my confidence; I went from struggling to find anything to say about myself as an artist, to maxing out the word count for this section.

Elinor also really helped me to understand the financial aspects of funding on a deeper level, which allowed me to strengthen my application. This knowledge also gave me the courage to apply for the full amount as it became clear that it was reasonable to do so.

I was successful in my funding application and was awarded the full grant. But even if I had not been successful, being able to complete the application was a massive boost for me - increasing my confidence not only in the sustainability of my artist practice but also in my ability to navigate one more aspect of the world as a neurodivergent woman.
